Design Education needs hands-on assignments/learning which cannot be only put into classroom teaching
All beginner students are put through studios and workshops to familiarise and develop creative thought process, familiarity with the tools of expression and exposure to build an innovative thought process
The initial semesters of all programmes are dedicated to familiarising the fundamentals of each area of Design
In the workshop assignment they are exposed to various mediums/ materials for better understanding of 3D form
The specialisation semesters demand active Industry and Market participation with a view to collect data and for better understanding of professional working systems.
With advancement in Technology and Science, materials are changing very rapidly. Students are required to do material study on a regular basis for better understanding, handling and using them suitably in their assignments.
The School takes pride in the fact that all Design assignments and projects are on live and current topics from the contemporary market
In the grooming of the true professionals, Management inputs like Advertisement, Marketing, Business Studies and Entrepreneurship Development programmes is taken up as core subjects common to all specialisations
The School has a unique feature of providing six months’ internship training at the end of the programmes
The School, besides fulfilling the curriculum requirements, makes efforts for value addition to the whole programme for giving better exposure to the students. This is done through organising various student activities such as regular industrial visits to sites and commercial setups, conducting specialised workshops by professionals, inviting experts from the industry to deliver guest lectures.
To provide deeper understanding, certain additional inputs are given to integrate classroom teaching with actual practice. This is achieved through participation in various trade fairs, exhibitions, seminars and shows to keep abreast with the latest trends in the industry. The School receives consultation projects from organisations which are passed on the students for exposure and hands-on experience.
Besides providing academic knowledge and training, the students are encouraged to actively participate in socially relevant projects and activities to instill human values. They are motivated to take up socially relevant topics/ problems for their thesis and design projects. For instance, the School has recently concluded a prestigious project with the Indian Institution of Technology, Delhi, to design ‘Enabled Clothing for Elderly Women in India’.
Our students have been placed in leading national & multinational organisations, business houses, and industrial firms in various parts of the country. Our students have contributed to the growth of the Design industry by serving as Designers, Merchandisers, Visualizers, Buyers and Creative Heads with prestigious Design houses. They are employed with not only domestic but also famous international brands.
Besides providing a conducive learning environment, state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities and innovative course curriculum, ASD offers a unique teaching methodology aimed at achieving excellence in the field of Design Education. We encourage our students at every step to adopt a research oriented approach for methodical data collection followed by critical analysis, leading to identification of problem area(s) that need to be addressed.
